Edit songs directly from show list

In some show layouts, there is a pencil icon at the lower left of the main display area (right side in split mode) that brings up details of the currently selected song for editing. In other layouts (probably just in ones I have created?) that isn't enabled. When I edit the layout, I see the pencil icon grayed out, but can't see how to enable it. I can't see anything in the list of fields to add that would seem to relate to that. And I can't seem to find it mentioned in the documentation. Any help??

The edit button is in the bottom toolbar, and the bottom toolbar only appears if you have assigned fields to any of the text placeholders in the bottom toolbar. So I think you need to edit your layout, select one of the placeholders, and select a field for it. Then the toolbar with the edit button will appear. Does that make sense?
