Automation track timing

I have been making use of automation tracks to change drum brain patches via midi at different parts of a song that also uses a recording as a backing track.

Normally, recordings count "down" the time remaining over the speaker icon. However, if there is an automation track used on a song with a recording - this countdown is no longer available. Basically the speaking just stays orange.

Is this something I need to change a setting for or does the use of automation tracks simply make the recording countdown unavailable?

The countdown timer should appear regardless of any automation track you're using. Can you post a screen shot or video showing the problem?
