How to delete the document viewer from a layout?

I have a set list only layout with the tempo icon for our drummer, but I want to remove the document viewer. How? I tried starting from a blank layout but it's still there.

You can't delete it, but if you set the layout layering to Document On Top, it will be hidden initially and you can avoid doing any of the actions that would show it.

Thanks! Is there a way to have the doc viewer default to the Notes field?

Document Viewer and Notes Viewer are two different layout items. You can add the Notes Viewer to your layout if you wish, but it doesn't have an option to layer it on top the layout like the Document Viewer. You can use the Notes Button if you want to show and hide the notes in a popup window.
