Creating a new document with Apple Pencil: bug or feature?

I've been playing around with different layouts and I discovered that if I double tap the Apple Pencil when viewing a song that doesn't have any documents attached in a layout with a document viewer, BandHelper creates a blank document that you can write on. If you save the annotations, the document persists as an attached file for the song.

According to the BandHelper website, double tapping the pencil is supposed to open the annotation toolbar for an existing document. There's no mention of being able to create a new document. Also, there's no way to do this without the Apple Pencil. This makes me think this is a glitch.

If it is a glitch, this is can actually be a really useful feature. I currently make handwritten notes in a separate app, export them as pdfs and then attach them to songs in BandHelper. This would save a lot of steps

Both of those behaviors are true: double-tapping an Apple Pencil 2 should open the annotation toolbar, and opening the annotation toolbar from a placeholder page (no document or lyrics) should create a new, empty document. But there is a glitch because the annotation button currently doesn't appear in the document toolbar for placeholder pages, so currently the only way to access that functionality is with the Apple Pencil 2. I'll restore that button in the next update.

The annotate button for songs that don't have a document or lyrics is restored in today's 2025-01-24 release.
