MIDI Tempo sends Start command not Tempo

Greetings
I normally have MIDI Presets to set tempo using CC numbers to MIDI devices Beatbuddy, Boss RC500 and with a midi controller Morningstar MC6 Pro controlling these and an Idoru P1.

When I select a song MIDI is set up to send "on song selection" and this works fine...

However, I've been trying to use the Tempo function in the individual song settings instead (hopefully this will enable me to get rid of hundreds of tempo CC presets in BH), but when I give the song a tempo setting number and select the song, the BH app sends an FA (MIDI START) command instead... The result is that any midi device connected immediately starts playing (and not at the selected tempo!)

I find that this only happens when Settings/Tempo & Pitch/Send MIDI beat clock or Send Tempo to Beatbuddy are enabled.

Am I missing something or is this a bug?

Cheers, Dave

MIDI Beat Clock is a real-time, ongoing driver of the tempo; it's not just a one-time "set the tempo to x" message like you're doing with your control changes. The MIDI spec calls for a Start message when you start it and a Stop message when you stop it.

That's the only way to send a tempo in the MIDI spec, but some manufacturers have created their own, non-standard ways to do it, which you've found with your control change messages.

So if you want to use MIDI Beat Clock, you can use the tempo button; otherwise you'll need to use MIDI presets.
