Lyrics are overlaying screen

Still learning this app and watching a lot of tutorials but I can't figure this one out.  The tutorials say that when you add lyrics to a song, a document button appears and when you tap it, the lyrics appear.  In this case, the document button only appears if I add the button to the screen, and it's blue for songs with lyrics, but the lyrics come up automatically and the button does nothing. The lyrics also overlay the screen where you see the background behind them. Same thing happens if I attach them as a PDF.  See attached.

What I am looking to do is have a button where when you tap it, the lyrics appear. When you tap it again, they disappear.  And also, that there is a solid background behind them so you don't see the song info behind it.  Is this not possible or am I missing something?  Thanks

Hi richro65,

The best thing is to take a pre-made layout and edit it. For example, I took the layout "Lyrics as Fullscreen."

In any case, you should go into the editing mode to make adjustments. For example, I first turned on the buttons for "Switch Layout" and "Edit" under "Buttons in the Top Toolbar" in the details. This eliminates the somewhat cumbersome way through the menus.
This way, you can quickly switch layouts using the button at the top. To edit quickly, you just need to press the "Edit" button and then choose what you want to edit.

I love these little buttons. Thanks to arlo!!!

I'm sending a few photos. In one, you can see the expanded edit menu.
The other photos shows the song list you see when starting the layout "Lyrics as Fullscreen."

If you click on the document button there, the lyrics or the document (PDF) will open – see photo. A double-tap on this page will take you back to the song list.

Feel free to try out which buttons you can use or use a different layout as the base and edit it. It's best to leave the original and work on a copy of it.

Good luck!

Elle

It looks like you're using a split view layout, so the lyrics are always visible and you don't need to click the document button to see them. You can still use the document button to switch between multiple documents if you have them, and to start and stop auto-scrolling.

You also have the Notes field, the Key field and some buttons placed on top the document viewer. I don't recommend that at all for the Notes field because it will be difficult to read text on text. For the buttons, you can place them along the edges of the document viewer to use less space without reducing visibility much. Or you can place them in the empty space that you currently have between the song list and the document viewer.

But as ElleMrLA said, starting over with a fresh layout might be easier at this point. You can choose from one of the layout templates shown here...

...then customize if needed.

The reason I went with split screen is because I wanted to keep the set list visible in the left column, not disappearing after a song is tapped on and then having to tap a button to view it again.  Is this not possible in another layout?

I am actually setting this all up for the keyboard player in the band, just going with what she wants to see on the screen.  She sometimes uses notes and on rare occasion, especially when learning a new song, lyrics.

To show the lyrics on top those other buttons and fields only when clicking the document button, you can edit the layout details and change Layering to Document Viewer On Top.

Alternatively, you can edit the Layout Document Viewer and size it shorter to make room for the notes, then edit the Layout Buttons and Fields and place the notes field and the other buttons and fields under or beside the document viewer rather than on top of it. Then the lyrics will always be visible but will take less space and won't be partially covered by other things.

Thanks Arlo.  I was able to get that to work, but is there any way to change the document button or any button so it's a toggle for opening and closing the document?  Trying to avoid the double tap to get it to go away.

I tried adding an app control action to open/close a full screen document and that didn't work, and it changed the behavior of the document.  There is no option to remove the action I added. Is it not possible to remove it?

You can't use the document button to close a document. You can open the document toolbar and leave it open and use the X button to close it, but that's pretty small. If you don't like the double-tap, you can assign the Hide Document Viewer action to the Two-Fingered Tap trigger. I wouldn't use the Song Selection trigger because you said you only occasionally wanted to view the lyrics.

You can remove an app control action by selecting it and then deselecting any triggers that are selected for it.
