I know, this may sound like a weird question, but I am considering a use case for BH to run in on one of the new M4 MacMini's in a Rack, so audio-interface, MIDI etc is all in the rack, and remote controlling BH via an iPad (or Android Tablet). I am obviously aware of the screen sharing features within BH. However, the idea is that all system-critical components are hardwired in a 19" rack and the iPad controls BH via WIFI to finally avoid any potential issues surrounding audio/interface/cabling to iPad, BT audio, wireless MIDI etc.
I had a brief look dat DUET Display today as a potential contender to remotely control the MacMini from iPad, but I was wondering if anyone else has any experience with this or similar tools for screen sharing & control and/or a similar setup?
I think you would need a keyboard and mouse/trackpad to start up BandHelper on the Mac, but then you could follow the iPad to control it for the rest of the show.
Hi Arlo,
I have been playing around with Duet today and the cool feature they offer is that they offer touch control of MacOS from the iPad. A feature that would make mouses and keyboards obsolete, and a feature that i have not been able to find anywhere else yet (Sidecar, Universal control etc). But may be there are other solutions out there that i did not find yet. But did i understand your answer correctly that you do not have any experience with similar setups yet? What would you see as potential drawbacks for such a setup?
I guess you're talking about no display connected to the Mac either? I've never tried running BandHelper like that. The only drawback I can think of is the obvious one of how to control the Mac without a keyboard, mouse or display before the Live Sharing is connected, or if something goes wrong. You can search for "headless Mac" to read about other peoples' experiences with that.
