G'day Arlo
As a duo we use 2 iPads running BH with my iPad controlling the other for song selection via Live Sharing/Follow Actions from.. my iPad. This has always worked great in the past with a dedicated wifi device that we use at each gig location...
Recently we started a new tour (gig every night) and have been getting nightly drop outs between iPads with the following message: "Session Error. The operation couldn't be completed. Socket is not connected (57)(300)". Is this an iOS error or something BH...?
As this often happens mid-song and the message obscures the lyrics it is quite frustrating.
Regards
Further to the above, I have a request...
Would it be possible to add a Layout Field which would display the current SetList song number on my iPad screen..? That way, if there was a drop-out my partner could look over to my iPad, see the song number, and load it accordingly on her iPad...
Thanks

Please turn on Settings > Advanced > Other > Use Peer Networking on all your devices, then force quit and restart the apps to make sure the new setting takes effect. I would do this when you have some time to test it before the next show. If the problem still happens, please submit a help ticket.

Yes, you can edit the Buttons and Fields for your layout, click one of the bottom toolbar fields and select Song Number.
Thanks Arlo, will try it out.... I assume you mean click Settings/Advanced/Other/Use New Peer Connections and Use New Peer Data...?
You should leave Use New Peer Data turned off.
Thanks Arlo, no drop outs at last nights gig... :)
Tried the Song Number feature in the bottom row on Layout, but it is too small to be visible unless quite close... Could I make a feature request that a freely movable and resizable field be added that could be placed in the Layout to show just Song Number (ie 24, and not 24/136)
Thanks for your help, as always

Okay, I'll put that on my wish list. Meanwhile, it would probably be cognitively easier to process to just show the song title in large text in your layout, rather than the song number, which band members would have to compare to the song numbers displayed on their screens. Also, if the data were out of sync between your devices, the song numbers might not match.
Thank you...!
Hi Arlo,
In addition.. I have a couple of issues as well with live connection (follow events).
I have 2 iPads and 1 iPhone:
iPad-1 = IOS 16.7.11
iPad-2 = IOS 18.5
iPhone = IOS 18.5
All devices has:
Use New Peer Connection = ON
Use Nes Peer Data = OFF
1a. Follow iPad-2 events on iPad-1 AND follow iPad-1 events on iPad-2.
Most often iPad-2 gets an error prompt saying something like 'Connection refused by host'.
iPad-1 does not have any issues.
After several attempts (I con't figure out why or how) the connection succeeds and everything works as expected.
1b. Follow iPad-2 events on iPhone AND follow iPhone events on iPad-2.
No issues and no error prompts :-)
2. When connected switch off (going into sleep mode) one of the devices and turn on again (wake up):
2a. Turn off and on iPhone: most often no issue
2b. Turn off and on iPad-2: the prompts with 'trying to reconnect' comes up and shows in log, but on iPad-2 the prompt doesn't go away and only option is to press cancel.
In this case iPhone continues to follow iPad-2 events but iPad-2 does not follow iPhone events - however the Live Share Status still shows both devices on each screen (and Log did say connected on both devices !?!)
I still get the same issue as 1a above.... Seems a random occurrence, but most often following a break (when I turn off BH on both iPads for 30mins to save battery) and then try to reconnect them... These are dedicated band iPads not that old, and never had this issue in past few years of using them.

Arlo,
Here are som more observations regarding the live connecting ipad issue.
- IPad follow actions from iPhone.
- IPad goes into sleep mode
- Wake up iPad
- Log file shows activity (see screenshots)
- iPad shows error prompt that does not go away - only option is to press 'cancel'
- However iPad is still following actions from iPhone ?!?
- If both devices are following the others actions, then most of the time iPad does no longer follow iPhone actions... even though log activities imply that it does reconnect and 'Connected devices' field still shows iPhone and iPad connected!?!
- only way to make both devices follow each others actions again are to disconnect both devices and reconnect both devices again! :-(

It looks like the auto-reconnect message wasn't closing after finishing the reconnection. That will be fixed in the next update. Until then, you can watch the lead device to see when your device reconnects and then click Cancel to close the message.
An alternative to using the auto-reconnect is to manually disconnect before putting your device to sleep and reconnect after waking it up again.
G'day Arlo.... It seems the only way to fix this issue is to manually disconnect at the end of a gig and re-enable at the start of the next one
I have 2 dedicated iPads for our duo... have been using them for BH at gigs for several years - no connection probs previously....
My iPad is set up to Broadcast Actions under Live Sharing, and before every gig I run Live Sharing/Follow Actions From... on iPad2 and select my iPad from the options screen. Trouble is that very often my iPad, although displayed as an option on IPad2, will refuse the connection. I've found the only way to enable the connection is to untick Broadcast Actions on iPad1 then retick it and Save. iPad2 will then connect.
iPad2 will occasionally disconnect and reconnect at random during the gig once or twice... no idea why this happens.
We use a dedicated Apple Wifi (AirPort Express).
Under Live Sharing I have Auto-Accept Connections enabled also Advanced..../Use New Peer Connections enabled
Would be a great time saver if this worked..

Do you get an error message? What does it say?
Quotethe only way to enable the connection is to untick Broadcast Actions on iPad1 then retick it and Save. iPad2 will then connect.
Does the Refresh Broadcasting button from the Live Sharing Status window also fix that?
On iPad2(Jenni): When selecting Live Sharing/Follow Actions from/ iPad1(Dave) we get message:
Connection Refused. The remote device is no longer accepting connections (306).
Refreshing iPad2 does not change anything, iPad1 is still displayed as available
Activity log attached...
You would use the Refresh Broadcasting button on the lead device. That would be an easier alternative to going to Settings > Live Sharing and turning broadcasting off and on.
Also, are you saying the following device is trying to auto-reconnect on a different day from when you last connected? For example, you were connected at a rehearsal and then closed the app and then at a gig the app tried to auto-reconnect? That shouldn't happen; the auto-reconnect is only intended to run if there is a temporary interruption to the network, or the app crashes and you restart it.
The option to follow actions from is really cool and we're using it since over a year. The big benefit for us is, that we actually don't start with a predefined Setlist. We select the songs adhoc while the gig, starting with set a handful of songs for a set, then having a short break, set up the next set and so on. Sometimes I'm changing the order while playing a set or extend it by more songs. It makes the communication on stage quite easy. Nevertheless can every user switch to the songlist, or switch manually between the Songs.
We also have sometimes the issue with drops and session error. Using three iPads been controlled by mine as master.
The main issue is, if one device is loosing the connection and reconnect, this device comes with the error message ,song cannot be found' and I need to remove the songs and add it again.
Just curious, what does the ,use new peer connections' mean?

I think you mean if you add a song to a set list while a following device is disconnected, the song isn't added on that device. You can avoid that problem by viewing All Songs on the following devices instead of viewing a specific set list.

That uses newer networking code, which is still in a testing phase, but so far it looks like it's more reliable than the older code.
Arlo,
My input earlier in this thread lead to an update from you fixing the pop-up message that was blocking BH. Thanks :-)
However the other issues my report was describing like loosing connection and having reconnecting difficulties still exist just like other users are reporting in this thread.
I get the 'refused' message from time to time. Other times it looks like reconnection succeeds and "connected units" status says connected to the other ipad on both ipads AND 'Following events from iPadX'. Typically one of the ipads follow the other successfully both the other doesn't (even if the status says it does). In this case to get it correctly connected I need to select 'Refresh Broadcasting' on both and do the 'Follow events from' on both devices.
I tried locking (sleeping) iOS devices while Live Sharing, with New Peer Connections on. Locking/unlocking the following device always led to an automatic reconnection to the lead device. Locking/unlocking the lead device was more complicated.
About half the time, that resulted in an automatic reconnection from the following device; otherwise, the following device showed a 306 error and then manual reconnections failed until I clicked Refresh Broadcasting on the lead device.
The lead device should automatically refresh its broadcasting when a device disconnects, but it looks like that sometimes failed because the disconnection was not yet finished. I added a short delay to the automatic refresh and now the automatic reconnect works consistently. Or if the automatic reconnect times out while the lead device is still locked, manually reconnecting after unlocking the lead device also works consistently.
Note that the automatic reconnection is meant for brief outages, like switching the lead device to a mixer app to make an adjustment, then switching back again. It's not meant for a longer outage, like locking your devices during a set break. But if you do that now, you should be able to manually reconnect afterwards without manually refreshing the broadcasting first.
This change will be available in the next release in a few days.
This is great news, Arlo, I really appreciate as this has been a constant pain in the a... :-)
When this update rolls out, will users have to toggle that "new peer connection" option on?
I only tested this with the new peer connections. If the same problem occurs with the old code, this might fix that, too.
The automatic refresh broadcasting after locking/unlocking a device should be improved in today's 2025-08-08 release.
