We (band) are looking to send stable PC/song change messages to satellite tablets. WiFi often does not relay the song-change message, so we're wondering if there is a hard-wire solution, either through a USB hub, or Ethernet/LAN hub/splitter, etc..
Our environment is that my Korg Kronos keyboard's USB-B port is cabled to a Samsung Android tablet's USB-C port. This tablet is the master and BandHelper "mostly" responds well to song changes from the Kronos. This master tablet, as well as all other musician's satellite tablets (both iOS and Android) are on a dedicated wifi network, and the satellite tablets respond to song-changes sent over the wifi. Unfortunately a lot of times the tablets do not respond. This is the area we'd like to improve, to try to get away from wifi and go to a hardwired solution if available.
Does anyone know if this is possible, and if so, where I can find info on how to do it ?
Thank you.
This is the first I've heard of devices connecting through live sharing but sometimes not responding to messages. I'm looking at ways to improve live sharing overall and will keep that in mind.
Meanwhile, you can set up an Ethernet network and all the live sharing functionality should adapt to that automatically. You could also have a mixture of Ethernet and wi-fi connected devices if the network is set up correctly. If your existing wi-fi router has Ethernet ports, you could start by using those, and add an Ethernet hub if you need more ports.
If you're just doing song changes, you could also use MIDI instead of the live sharing function. In that case you would need to set up a MIDI network that includes all the devices. AFAIK, mobile devices can only receive MIDI through USB or Bluetooth, so that would require a completely new setup.
