Title: ABC Notation
Post by: jeebustrain on March 21, 2026, 06:11:50 PM
I recently started using Joplin as a shared personal note taking application and saw that it supports something called ABC Notation. It's basically a markup language that lets you insert notation inline with text. I've started using it to make rehearsal song notes and it comes in handy to do little quick rhythmic or melodic figures and stuff without having to create an entire sheet of notation and export as PDF. I'm not sure how complicated it would be to add the functionality to Bandhelper, but if it was there, I would definitely use it (and I imagine others would as well).

I can put this on my wish list.

Currently, you can create music notation in a music notation app, then export as a PDF to attach to a song as a full page document, or as a small JPG to insert inline into the lyrics.

thanks Arlo. PDFs are I'm doing right now within Bandhelper. This is just a neat little shortcut, would save a couple steps. Especially if I just need to toss a quick phrase in, without needing notation software.
