Title: View all Projects at once?
Post by: hillbilly on April 24, 2015, 10:07:33 AM
I have many duplicate songs across 3 different projects. Is there any way to view all songs in all projects at once so I can eliminate the duplicates?

No. Is the problem that you have, let's say, three copies of a song in each of three projects, and you want to eliminate two copies and share the third one across all three projects?

That's exactly it, Arlo. I imported 3 Set List Maker databases into 3 different Projects and they contain *lots* of redundant songs. I just thought there might be a way without having to flip back and forth between projects.

One way to do this would be to log into the web interface from two different browsers (e.g., Safari and Firefox), view them side by side, select a different project in each browser and go through the Songs list. Alternatively you could view one project in the web interface on your computer and another project on a mobile device and go through them that way.

Keep in mind that if you delete a duplicate song, it will be removed from all the set lists that contain it. If you want to preserve your past set lists, you could deactivate but not delete those songs. You could also just leave the separate copies of the songs in each project.

The main benefit to sharing songs across projects is that you can change the song and the change will appear in all the projects. In some cases you might not want this, so then you would want to have a separate copy of a song in each project.

Hi all,

I would like to come back to this issue once more. I would also appreciate the ability to have a "Super Project" that includes every items of my other projects for various reasons:

In general, in particular assigning items to different projects could be much easier if I could see all my items as a whole and their assignments to projects in one place. Therefore +1 for this feature!

Best
Christian

Something like this is on my wish list and I'll add a vote for you.

Any update on this on the horizon? The new checkbox for viewing all events on one page is great, I would highly appreciate a similar approach for the songs...

Dear Arlo,

thanks for porting all iOS apps to Swift and macOS in the meanwhile! Works great for me. I'm still struggling with the management of songs over multiple projects. Is there a way in the meanwhile at least for viewing all songs in one place? Usecase: If I want to add a songs to a specific project, first I'm trying the figure out if it already exists in a different project. If yes, I re-use it.

Thanks and best regards
Christian

No, but see my note above about using multiple browsers to view multiple projects at once. You can also do a search on the Songs page, then flip through the projects with that same search intact to see the results in each project consecutively.

Hi,

Just checking in on this idea.  Still on the wishlist?

My particular use case: I play with a lot of bands and so have a lot of projects.  On some keyboards without ways to informatively name patches, I'd like to be able to view a master list of all songs in all projects, and sort by various fields, including the custom fields I use for patch numbers for various keyboards.  That would help me  determine if a certain patch number is in use for a song anywhere across all projects.  I understand that some projects might not have all custom fields; I'd be fine with nulls.

Any alternative method for accomplishing this would be lovely!  I don't need to do this often, so it wouldn't need to be a "user friendly" thing for me, or even in the iOS apps.  A giant CSV export of all songs across all projects would be great, as long as it had all custom fields in use across all projects (with null/empty values for songs in projects that don't use a particular custom field).

Love the recent work on the iOS apps.  Thanks Arlo!

Since this original post, the Songs page on the website gained a Find Duplicates button, which shows songs that are repeated (same title) in multiple projects and lets you choose one to keep. It does not merge the data from multiple songs together, but it does update any set lists that contain any of the songs to use the one copy of the song that you keep.

More recently (last week), the Songs page on the website also gained an Include All Projects filter, which shows songs from all projects. I think mynameisdanno could use that along with the Export button at the bottom of that page to search custom fields across all projects.

Arlo, the new "All Projects" checkbox works great, thank you so much!  Who knows how long it would've taken me to notice that was added.  The export behaves just as I'd hope, including any custom fields that are present in the currently selected project.  My only requested improvement would be for the Export to have a "Projects" field that includes the project(s) that song is enabled in.  I know that gets kinda ugly with songs in multiple projects since you'll need a non-comma delimiter, but it would be nice.

Amazing work as always.

I'll put that on my to do list.
