Title: editing a song/recording that is used by multiple projects
Post by: PatrickJ on August 18, 2016, 09:49:40 AM
My scenario: I use the same songs in different projects but i want the associated recordings to be different in each project. i.e. a project called "Lead Guitar" has recordings designed for the lead guitar parts, etc.

As of now whenever I change a song, i.e.  the name, add/delete a recording, etc. the effect is global to all projects.

Will I have to create each song uniquely in each project and then add the recording I want? Or is there a quicker, easier way that I'm just not seeing?

You would need to have a different copy of the song in each project.

Is the only reason you've set up different projects so that you can swap between different sets of recordings? If so, there is an easier way to do that within a single project.

well what I did was...from one project, kind of a master project if you will, I added selected songs to a new project, however whatever I did to those songs in the new project also affected the songs in the donor project.

Well my reasons are basically two fold.

1.) I'm a paranoid controlling bastage and I want the player of the instrument to only see and hear/download his part.

2.) Most of the players have trouble with the drop down list of recordings and get frustrated with it. If they only had one option (recording) then they need only push the icon.  You see we are mostly old hippies of the '70s and big hairs from the '80s (with a lot less hair)

I have a feeling I'm going to have to hand build each song in each project then I can add just the selected recording

Thank you for your reply.

When you add documents and recordings to your account, you can select the users who can access them. Then you can go ahead and attach them all to the same song. So if you assign Document 1 to User 1, Document 2 to User 2 and Document 3 to User 3, then attach them all to Song A, then when User 1 views Song A it will appear to only have Document 1 attached, and so on.

I think this approach would address your requirements without the need for separate projects or separate copies of songs.
