Title: Using Voices from iPad (like SampleTank)
Post by: keysandmore on March 31, 2015, 01:48:09 PM
Is it possible to use patches/voices from within the iPad, like SampleTank keyboard voices. in addition to external devices (like a Motif keyboard)?

I just received the following reply from the SampleTank tech staff:

"SampleTank can not switch parts using MIDI, but you can send a Program Change to SampleTank to change User Presets.

If Set List Maker can send MIDI via iOS Virtual MIDI, you can send a Program Change to SampleTank.  This will change the User Preset in SampleTank remotely.

In SampleTank, click on the SOUNDS tab, then click on PRESET.  Scroll past the first page with presets with the "F" - 1F, 2F, 3F - these are factory presets.  The next page will show you User Presets, listed numerically - 1, 2, 3, etc.

The Preset number corresponds to the MIDI Program Change number.  Example, you can save a User Preset in #1.   You can then send MIDI Program Change #1 to SampleTank - this will recall Preset #1.   MIDI Program Change #2 will recall Preset #2, and so on.

You may want to check with Set List Maker's developer to see if the app can send MIDI Program Changes via iOS Virtual MIDI.  This will allow you to recall specific presets in SampleTank."

So, based on their response, can Set List Maker send MIDI program changes via iOS Virtual Midi?

Thanks

Yes -- instructions are here:

By default, Set List Maker doesn't distinguish between virtual MIDI and non-virtual (?) MIDI ... it just sends messages to every available destination. So you don't need to do anything special to set this up. If you want to limit where Set List Maker sends MIDI to, you can select a port when you create the MIDI preset. But I don't recommend doing this unless you have a reason to.
