Cannot Get chord in Square brakets to appear in lyrics

Purchased Setlist maker having looked through most of the tutorials.  loaded a couple of hundred lyrics from text files using stick and paste and then tried to add the chords by putting them in square brackets.  In show mode went from having perfectly operating text files to a single line with the title and then a big blank space before the last line of the lyrics!
