Questions about lyric and MIDI automation! VoiceLive3, Fractal Audio

Hi All,

Looking seriously at this app after a lot of research. The reviews are highly positive everywhere I looked.

The 2 bands I play in have historically used an iPad to play backing tracks with no other automation. We are at the point where we need to implement some new functionality and hopefully SLM can help!

One question would be, can SLM let the drummer see and control the backing tracks from an iPad as well as send the lyrics out to a TV used as a teleprompter and scroll them in sync with the track? Currently, the lead vocalist pages through a PowerPoint with a Bluetooth footswitch.

We are also going to begin using a TC Helicon VoiceLive 3 Extreme and would like to automate all of the preset and effect changes too.

In addition, we'd love to send MIDI to both guitar rigs for preset automation, one of which is a Fractal Audio AX8.

I'm assuming the last two would be pretty straight forward using MIDI CCs and program change messages but it doesn't hurt to confirm!

Thanks for your input!

Yes. Here are the tutorials for playing recordings:

and auto-scrolling:

External display settings are on the Settings > General Settings page.

Yes, people are using my apps with both of those products. Instructions for setting up my app are here:

And you can find info about communicating with those specific products elsewhere on this forum or on those products' forums.

Thanks for the reply Arlo!

I looked through all the videos you posted as well as some others along the way. This helped explain a lot on the software side.

After watching the videos it seems that the drummer would run an iPad to control the backing tracks and could use the remote control feature to connect to another iPad via Bluetooth that would drive an external HDMI monitor which would show full screen scrolling lyrics for current song? If this is correct, can you tell me what kind of hardware/adapters, etc I may need for this configuration? Specifically, I'm not sure how to drive the external monitor from the iPad.

Thanks!

To connect an external display, you can either use an Apple TV for wireless or a Lightning video adapter for wired:

You'll probably also want to pack your own wi-fi router for reliable device linking on stage:

This all makes sense!

I happen to have a Mac Mini I don't use. I can use that in place of the Apple TV?

arlo

I don't think so, at least not with extra software. You might be able to use that as your wi-fi hub, but that seems needlessly complicated.

MikeyJ

Ok. So how does the Apple TV integrate with SLM in a way that the Mac Mini wouldn't?

Sorry to be a pain! Just want to be sure I understand the logistics of it.

arlo

An Apple TV will appear on the iPad as an AirPlay receiver. A Mac doesn't have that functionality.
