Android Tablet - Error creating Virtual Port

One of my bandmates just got a new Android Tablet (Samsung I think) and I don't know Android stuff at all -

He is getting
"ERROR adding port virtual MIDI - BandHelper for output"
"ERROR adding port virtual MIDI - BandHelper for input"

He has the OTG USB-c adapter and USB cable, but he gets this error before he even plugs anything in.
Needless to say he can't connect to any of his keyboards... any Android users seen something like this? Many thanks.

If he's connecting through USB, the virtual ports don't matter. He should see his USB MIDI interface or USB class-compliant MIDI device appear in the Connected Ports list.
