Android - which MIDI devices are working?
« on: November 17, 2014, 02:36:54 AM »
Hi Arlo,

congratulations for this brilliant Software, that's what i've searched for.

Yesterday i tried to build a test setup with two MIDI-Interfaces on my Android devices:

Yamaha MX61 Synthesizer
Midmate II USB MIDI Cable

Both working without any Problems on Windows PC (no special driver neccessary), also on Android Nexus 5 or Mediatab on "MIDI Commander" or "USB MIDI Monitor".

In my setup i want send MIDI Program-Changes and a few of other MIDI-Controls to my Keyboards.

I checked every options in SLM config, but nothing seems to work.

Please publish a list of working MIDI Interfaces for Android 4.x.x Devices.

Maybe you have a few of hints, whats wrong.

Thanks

Balu

Apparently something is missing in the USB portion of my MIDI implementation. I don't have a USB interface to test with -- I've just been using RTP -- but I ordered one, and when it arrives I'll test it and let you know what I find.

Hi Arlo,

thanks a lot for your quick response. I couldn't sleep right anymore, but now i fixed the problem.

Now my Midi-Interface is working properly with Set List Maker.  ;D

Your Answer was a push start thinking.
Finally i found the right hint in documentation of another Midi App (TouchDAW).

For this kind of connection you chose, debug-mode on USB-Interface must be enabled on Android device.

Midi Commander obviously communicate by another way with USB-Interface, so it is working without debug mode.

Now i am very happy and confident to build a working setlist with included Midi Program Changes.

Good work! But I think this should not be necessary with Set List Maker, so I'll still look into it further.

Have you tried sending MIDI into Set List Maker, or only sending it out from Set List Maker? I have a USB MIDI interface to test with now, and I was able to send data from Set List Maker, but not receive data.

I do have USB debugging enabled on all my devices and I forgot to see what happens if I turn that off. I still want to confirm whether that is needed -- it shouldn't be.

I just released version 1.1, which fixes what I think was the problem I experienced receiving MIDI. It also includes a new MIDI Status window to help in troubleshooting the MIDI setup:

And I started a general thread for USB MIDI on Android here:
