Hide shared chords when personal chords field is empty

Does anyone know how to NOT show shared chords in your layout when your personal chords field is empty? I use shared chords on some songs, personal chords on others, and don't want any chords to show on some that have shared but no personal chords.
I could have sworn I used to do this by putting a few spaces, or maybe a single dash in the personal chords field, but when I save the song after adding spaces now, the personal chords field returns to empty and shows the shared chords in the layout again. (The dash just shows in the layout as a dash).
Is there any kind of character we can put into the personal chords field that will block the shared chords but not open the chords field in the layout? I've searched this forum and googled for almost an hour and can't find an answer.
I could move any shared chords I use to my personal chords field, but that would not solve the problem of not showing shared chords when I don't need personal or shared (i.e. personal chords is empty).
Thanks!

There's no intentional app function to suppress the display of the shared chords when the personal chords is empty. Putting a small amount of text into the personal chords field, like the dash as you described, should work. Another option is to hide the chords field on songs where you don't want to see it; you can do that by clicking the chords/lyrics divider, clicking the Hide Chords Field button in the document toolbar, or triggering the Hide Chords Field app control action. But you would have to do that manually every time you want to hide or show it.
