How to start/stop recording using a pedal, without using a button in the UI?

I have song recordings attached to each song in BH. I can control (start and stop) them from the UI without any issues. Is there a way that this can be done using a pedal? Using midi, bluetooth, wifi, usb or otherwise?

If there is already a recording for a song with an App Control to Start/Stop Playback, can I set an app control to start a new recording to make a note during a perforce or do I have to use the Record Button on the  Playback Control for that?

If you want to make an in-app recording, you need to do that from the recording control buttons in the layout.

Similar to the other users on this thread, I use in-app recording, in my case during rehearsals to capture audio so that we have reference material for new band members and subs as well as marketing materials.

The functionality works as advertised, but my minor nit that the screen controls to arm and start recording are really small.  I see no way to make those particular controls larger tap targets for my touchscreen and it becomes tedious to start and stop while wearing a guitar.  I must tell the band to "hang on a sec while I start recording", which kinda harshes the flow when the band just spontaneously starts into something...you know how artists can be sometimes!

So, I seek either 1) way to make the tap targets for those controls larger on the tablet, OR 2) a way to do it from a pedal.

Related is that I want to automatically accept the proposed filename/timestamp and move on, I don't want to have to accept it explicitly as this involves more tedious interaction.  Unfortunately, after stopping the recording capture,  (on the Mac version of the app) the filename pop-up doesn't appear to have focus on the "save" button, so I can't just hit enter and move on.

Is there some clever way to address these issues that I have overlooked?

Thank you.

In the new version 2025-06-06 released today, you can use the Recordings > Record/Save In-App Recording app control action to quickly make an in-app recording. Triggering this action skips the recording levels preview and starts recording immediately. Triggering it again skips the save prompt and saves the recording with the default filename. You can use this action in a layout that doesn't include the recording controls. Also, on macOS, you can press Enter on your keyboard to accept the filename prompt when making in-app recordings from the recording controls.

Love this new feature.

If I can make suggestion for a small improvement: have temporary notifications pop up that tells the user that recording has begun and that the recording has been stopped and saved

There's no visual cue at all if you don't have a recording button in your layout. And the recording button doesn't indicate that the file has been saved successfully

OK, I'll put that on my wish list. I'd expect most people would have either the recording button or the recording controls in their layout and then they'll see visual feedback from that. If you don't have that, I think the operating system will show a small indicator (e.g., a small orange dot in the status bar on iOS) when the app is recording.

I still think the notification would go a long way in jut making it more clear to the user.

Let's say you have this function as a two-fingered tap and you're using a different layout without recording controls, I imagine it might be easy to accidentally trigger the recording and you end up having a bunch of recordings you didn't plan on
